Billi’s Backyard

Theatre on Toast is a new, vibrant theatre company with a fantastic new show highlighting the importance of sustainable living and a sustainable future. The show is suitable for kinder to grade 6 students.

The basic plot of the show is centered around Billi, a 9 year old girl, who has just moved into a new house with her Mum who is obsessed with bug spray, glad wrap and installing more power points. Billi quickly begins to explore her new home and discovers a large vegetable patch in the backyard. Here Billi lets her imagination run wild as she interacts with the plants, vegetables, insects and grubs who teach her about composting, packaging and doing your bit for the environment whilst also managing to over come the evil Queen Fart-Pongey.

The performance is a fun, visual experience that engages children through audience interaction. We hope to prompt change amongst younger generations to help make a change for our environment and create a sustainable future.

Billi’s Backyard is a two handed production starring Nicolette Forte & Alyce Fisher. The set, prop’s and costumes used in the show are made from predominantly recycled materials and were created by the cast. The production also doesn’t require the use of any stage lighting or sound and means that we are not drawing on any electricity.

For semester 2 of 2008 it is being offered for our introductory rate $4.40 per student with a minimum of $440 per performance, inc gst. Bookings are also now available for 2009 touring season.

“A big thank you to you for a wonderfully entertaining and engaging show today. The kids loved it and were talking about it for the rest of the day.”

comment on Billi’s Backyard Performance, May 2008)

‘There were some great lessons there for everyone, such as growing our own vegetables, recycling and turning off lights to save energy. Overall the acting and songs were enjoyed by all. Well done and thank you on behalf of all the school.’ Vice Principal Numurkah Primary School.

‘My opinion on Billi’s Backyard was that it was excellent. They were sending a great message out to kids, not to litter, turn off lights, turn of taps and try not to use plastic bags( use baskets or bags instead –green ones). The show was very entertaining and interesting. It was worthwhile and our school really enjoyed it. 10/10 ‘. by Declan Yr6 Numurkah Primary School.
